Yonkers’ Own Mary Calvi to Sign Copies of Second Work of Historical Fiction at Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers
WHAT :
Stew Leonard’s in Yonkers will welcome author, Emmy award-winning journalist, and Yonkers native Mary Calvi for a signing of her second work of historical fiction, If a Poem Could Live and Breathe (Published by St. Martin’s Press; $28.99; On-sale 2/14/23), on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 9 a.m. – Noon.
Just as she did in her debut novel, Dear George, Dear Mary: A Novel of George Washington’s First Love, Calvi again questions the history books, this time reframing Theodore Roosevelt’s marriage to his first wife, Alice Lee, using their previously unpublished love letters, which were long thought to have been destroyed. In doing so, Calvi makes vivid what many historians believe to be the pivotal years that made the future president into the man of action that defined his political life, and cemented his legacy. If a Poem Could Live and Breathe is an indelible portrait of the authenticity of first love, the heartache of loss, and how overcoming the worst of life’s obstacles can push one to greatness never imagined.
Stew Leonard’s will sell the book for $28.99/each.
